COOKING SINCE 2011
My Story
Welcome to Number Four, we are a small but mighty independant cafe/bistro found down the old historcal cobbled street of Butcher Row in the heart of Shrewsbury. Let me introduce myself, my name is Caroline Newbrook, owner here at Number Four. I opened the restaurant back in 2011, always my dream to open my own place, following on from the life I'd been born into, as my parents had a B&B on the Mount in the 1980's, then made the move to France to open their own hotel amd restaurant in an old magnificant water mill in the picturesque Dordogne countryside. Having grown up with summers spent, working the terrace in the sunshine and helping Dad in the kitchen, afternoons splashing around in the pool, then me and my sister went on to Sarlat catering college for 2 years followedI by a fun filled year in bar school (yes that's a thing!!) in the gorgeous surfer town of Biarritz where France meets Spain. Then life took me to London working in some beautiful restaurants before working around Euope for 3 years in Malta, French Alps and Spain, finally I settled back in my home town of Shrewsbury.

Number Four
Number Four has grown a lot over the years since the start in February 2011, converting the old Holland Barratt shop that had stood empty for a couple of years, a small cafe/bistro with seats for 25 took shape on the ground floor. Then as we got busier we needed to grow so fitted out the upstairs store rooms into further seating over looking Butcher row, a few years later in 2017 the big expansion took place, taking over the building behind us which used to be dance studios, the beast was born, all the space we needed, 100 seater, architect designed extension stood tall!!
